RIC de 1958 (Brazilian Navy Photographs)

Deputy Sergio Magalhães filed Requerimento de Informações nº 2957 on February 27, 1958, formally pressing the Ministério da Marinha for answers about the disc-shaped object photographed over Ilha de Trindade in the presence of the crew of the Navio Escola Almirante Saldanha. The eight numbered questions ask whether an inquiry was opened, whether crew depositions were taken, whether the negatives were examined for fraud, why the case was kept secret for roughly a month, and whether the commander of the tug Tridente witnessed a similar object. The justification notes that this was the first time the phenomenon was witnessed by a large number of members of a military force and that the photographs carried official endorsement ("chancela oficial") from a Navy press note. The expediente stamp shows the request was formally processed by the Câmara dos Deputados Secretariat on March 20, 1958 under ofício nº 10163.
