On 6 August 1954, the Varig cargo aircraft prefix VBF, flying Porto Alegre to Rio de Janeiro under Commander Nagib, co-pilot Ruthilo, and radio telegraphist Raphael, logged a luminous object that paced the aircraft from off Guaratuba past Paranaguá, varying altitude, speed, and brightness before vanishing under a cloud layer at roughly 2,400 meters. The crew killed all aircraft lights and tried to vector a second aircraft (VBX) onto the target, which VBX could not see. Nagib diverted to São Paulo. The envelope sets the Varig report inside a longer FAB-curated chronology of Brazilian sightings, including the November 1954 Canoas Air Base depositions presented by Brigadier Gervásio Duncan, the January 1958 Trindade Island photograph from the Almirante Saldanha, and the September 1968 Itaipu beach and Morro do Vintém events.
