Formal UFO Declassification Response
On April 19 2010, Defense Minister Nelson A. Jobim transmitted Ofício 4225-GM/Aspar-MD to the Chamber of Deputies answering nine questions from PSOL/RJ Deputy Chico Alencar's RIC 4470/2009 about Brazilian government UFO records. The response confirms that all OVNI material from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s held by the Comando da Aeronáutica was sent to the Arquivo Nacional during 2008 and 2009, with 1990s and 2000s records in final cataloging for imminent transfer, and sets August 31 2010 as the deadline for completing the transfer. It traces the institutional chain back to a 1978 internal order by the Minister of Aeronautics establishing a chronological 'Registro sobre OVNI' and a 'Comissão de Avaliação' staffed by officers free of preconceived opinions, with attributions transferred in 1989 to what is now COMDABRA. The document also names the Comissão Brasileira de Ufólogos (CBU) petition routed through the Casa Civil's Subchefia para Assuntos Jurídicos as the driver of the declassification correspondence between February 2008 and January 2010.
