# Summary This document is a formal military police inquiry from Brazil's School of Sergeants of Arms, dated March 10, 1997, that was opened to investigate the publication "Incident in Varginha," a book about an alleged UFO crash and extraterrestrial capture near the town of Varginha. The Brazilian military conducted witness interrogations, including that of Lieutenant-Colonel Olimpio Vanderlei Santos, who denied allegations in the book that he commanded a team responsible for capturing an alien being, characterizing the claims as false and irresponsible. The inquiry matters to UFO disclosure history because it represents an official military response to UFO incident claims and demonstrates how governments investigated and formally documented allegations of extraterrestrial contact, offering insight into Brazil's official stance on the famous Varginha case that became one of South America's most discussed UFO incidents.

key passages

A senior military officer named in the book as leading the ET capture operation gives sworn testimony flatly denying involvement, while also revealing that an inquiry was opened and suggesting the accusations were engineered by disgruntled subordinates seeking revenge.

when asked if such statements were true, to which he responded that no, such information being totally false, moreover demonstrating total irresponsibility and lack of character of those responsible for this procedure; when asked if he knows the manner by which this false information about his participation in the capture of the extraterrestrial being reached the authors of the book, he responded that he does not, but that he supposes that, due to having commanded the Battalion of Command and Services of the School for three years, probably in the fulfillment of his functions in command, he was forced to make decisions that may have displeased some military personnel and that he believes that, unfortunately, this story was created by some professional from the EsSA with the intent to avenge something that the witness may have done in the interest of the service.

page 13

The same military officer acknowledges that the photograph published in the ufology book was taken inside the Command Post of his battalion, confirming at least partial access to internal military imagery, and he explicitly compares the alleged tunnel operation to a scene from the film ET.

when shown by the Officer in Charge of the IPM a photograph, contained on page 83 of the publication and on Fl Nr AEG of these Records, the witness was asked if Lt. Col. VANDERLEI recognized the photograph and the location where it would have been taken, to which he responded that yes, it being the same a copy of the photograph taken inside the Command Post of the Battalion to be part of the Magazine O Monitor and not as it appears in the publication, as if it had been 'captured' from a video; regarding page 83 contained in these records regarding the assembly of a tunnel with the tarpaulins of the trucks, the witness said that the commentary is fantastical and quite similar to an existing scene in the film 'ET', by Steven Spielberg.

A Military Police commander offers the official explanation for the creature sightings, suggesting the girls confused a mentally disabled local vagrant for an extraterrestrial, while separately addressing the death of soldier Marco Eli Cherese, whose sister had publicly linked his death to ET contact.

he replied that there may have been, on the part of the girls cited in the book, a confusion resulting from the situation of rain, strong wind and lightning, in a poorly lit place, of the vision of the citizen shown in the photographs, known by the nickname of 'mudinho', resident probably in the Andere garden, close to Três Pontas street, in Varginha, a person who probably presents some mental deviation, due to the fact of crouching for hours, distracting himself with small objects, rummaging through garbage and whose physical structure and anatomical position, except for the eyes, horns and other small details, corresponds to the description of the extra-terrestrial creature contained in the book.

page 17

This page contains the most detailed narrative of the entire incident, including physical descriptions of the entities, a timeline of alleged captures, military unit identifications, transport routes to UNICAMP, and a claim that Brazilian military were warned in advance by the United States via satellite tracking.

Brazilian military personnel secretly informed the ufologists that North American military forces were tracking these objects through satellites and had warned the Brazilian government of the large concentration of UFOs in southern Minas. Without a shadow of doubt, CINDACTA I, in Brazil was also tracking the objects. Many military personnel spoke of an accord of military cooperation between Brazil and the United States. The satellite tracking allows detection of the crash or position of a spacecraft with an error of just a few meters. For the quick action of the military in Varginha, there is no doubt that they knew beforehand what was occurring. Probably CINDACTA I detected when a blip disappeared from the radar screens. Conclusion: it crashed or landed. Where? Varginha, southern Minas. What is the closest military base? The ESA, School of Sergeants of the Army in Três Corações, 27 km from Varginha. One simple phone call initiated the entire operation, under the coordination of the Army Intelligence Service, known as S-2.

page 37

The document contains an extraordinarily detailed physical description of the entities as reported by three young female witnesses and corroborated by unnamed military personnel, representing one of the most specific entity descriptions in the Varginha case record.

they saw something frightening: a being approximately 1.60 meters in height, thin, skin of a dark brown color, shining, as if it were coated with a kind of cream, with several apparent veins; it had two legs with enormous feet with two toes each, two arms with hands containing five fingers each, more elongated than the arms of human beings. The head was enormous, with three bony protuberances, two on the sides and one in the center of the head, without any apparent hair. The eyes were large, blood-red and protruding outward, like the eyes of a toad. The military who saw the captured beings, in addition to confirming this description, complemented it by saying that they had only two holes in place of a nose, a very small mouth, a thin and long black tongue, and exhaled a strong ammonia smell throughout their body and made a buzzing sound through their mouths similar to bees.

page 37

The document describes the alleged removal of entity remains from Humanitas Hospital using military convoy procedures including sealed coffins, plastic-wrapped trucks, and evasion maneuvers, naming specific military officers as coordinators of the entire operation.

A special reinforced coffin, a kind of casket, on top of two sawhorses, received the body of the being. The lid was placed on the coffin and properly sealed. Then it was wrapped with plastic sheeting and installed on the truck properly tied to the rear. The truck then had installed plastic windows, also closed, in a manner that one could not see absolutely nothing inside the vehicle. All these operations of capture, transport to the hospital, to ESA and to Campinas were coordinated by Lieutenant-Colonel Clirapio Wanderles dos Santos, by Captain, by Lieutenant Titério da PE and by Sergeant Padro.

page 37

An actual laboratory report from the Instituto Medico Legal on the body of soldier Marco Eli Cherese identifies specific bacterial cultures including Staphylococcus schleiferi and Enterobacter aerogenes, providing the only forensic documentation in the file and directly relevant to claims about unusual pathogens.

CULTURE - SAMPLE: DERRAME SEROSO MATERIAL: AXILLARY LYMPH CULTURE: There appears to be a description of microscopic examination of axillary lymph material in tension of IU, with numerous semi-transparent and somewhat darkened forms. Biochemical tests compatible with: Staphylococcus schleiferi. OBJECT: LUNG CULTURE: There appears to be a description of microscopic examination of material in marine tension of IU, with numerous abundant Gram-negative bacilli. Biochemical tests compatible with: Enterobacter aerogenes.

page 34

A press account names specific military personnel involved in the alleged capture operation and cites a ufologist claiming the US Secretary of State visited Brazil and that a delegation of 25 generals traveled to Campinas specifically to view the recovered entities at UNICAMP.

He said that on March 2 the 1st Secretary of the United States was in Brazil. 'For the first time in history, he came to Brazil, personally, to make an agreement', he emphasizes. A military informant, from Campinas, would have called to the Institute of Ufology saying that the minister and the high echelon would meet in that city on May 29 of 96, 'We activated a journalist from Campinas who documented the arrival of the Minister of Aeronautics with a delegation of 25 generals', he affirms. According to the ufologist; they went to Campinas to fulfill a 'ridiculous agenda', that people of lower echelon could handle if they reunited outside of the Brazilian capital, this is relevant. They went to see the system-creatures.

WITNESS INTERROGATION REPORT On the tenth day of the month of March of the year nineteen hundred and ninety-seven, in this city of Três Corações, State of Minas Gerais, at the School of Sergeants of Arms, where the Officer in Charge of this Inquiry was located, the witness named below appeared and was interrogated concerning Port Nr 009 AjG.2, of January 29, 1997, of Fl Nr 006, which was read to him, declaring the following: OLIMPIO VANDERLEI SANTOS, 47 years old, native of Rio de Janeiro-RJ, son of Wanderley Oliveira Santos and of D. Doracy Costa Santos, married, active duty military, lieutenant-colonel of the Infantry arm, resident at Avenue Getulio Vargas, 421, Center, in this city, Chief of the 13th Circumscription of Service And after the commitment to tell the truth, declared: when asked if he had already become aware of the publication entitled INCIDENT IN VARGINHA, authored by ufologist Vitério Pacaccini and Mr. Maxs Portes, he answered that he had seen it at a newsstand in the city of Varginha, but that he did not have the curiosity to read it; when asked if he knew that his name was being cited in the mentioned book, he answered that he did not; when asked if he personally knows, or has heard of, the authors of the publication, he answered that he does not know them and that he only became aware of the existence of these gentlemen on the day he received a phone call from a reporter from MGTV, informing him that a meeting of ufologists was taking place in the city of Varginha, and that at this meeting his name would be cited by one of these ufologists as responsible for the supposed capture of an extraterrestrial being; by the Officer in Charge of the IPM [Police Inquiry] it was commented that the witness was pointed out by the authors, several times in the book, as being the chief and the main responsible for the team that captured the creature and, subsequently, when asked if such statements were true, to which he responded that no, such information being totally false, moreover demonstrating total irresponsibility and lack of character of those responsible for this procedure; when asked if he knows the manner by which this false information about his participation in the capture of the extraterrestrial being reached the authors of the book, he responded that he does not, but that he supposes that, due to having commanded the Battalion of Command and Services of the School for three years, probably in the fulfillment of his functions in command, he was forced to make decisions that may have displeased some military personnel and that he believes that, unfortunately, this story was created by some professional from the EsSA [Escola de Sargentos das Armas - School of Sergeants of Arms] with the intent to avenge something that the witness may have done in the interest of the service and that may have prejudiced him; he added that the story was very well engineered by the authors, since he knows that also involved were Major RAMIRES, commander of the Company of Maintenance and Transport, and Lieutenant Tiberio, commander of the Platoon of Military Police; when asked if he knows why these military personnel would also have been involved in this plot, which is the subject of the cited book,

page 14

he responded that they are military personnel with important functions in the Battalion and that, probably, also in their daily professional work, they have made decisions that displeased some subordinates; he added further that he believes that the author or authors of this story are from the subunit of Major RAMIRES and that they probably have already been approached by the Platoon of Military Police during the practice of some transgression; he added further that another reason could have been when he, as officer in charge of an inquiry that was investigating breach of secrecy in a Routine Verification conducted in the Infantry Course, had, at the end of the same, requested punishment for military personnel who had contributed to the failure noted in the cited inquiry; when asked if he suspects who was responsible for informing his name to the authors of the cited publication, he responded that he does not, however he believes it was a career professional, since he does not find it probable that a soldier would have the intellectual capacity to plan a story of such magnitude; when shown by the Officer in Charge of the IPM a photograph, contained on page 83 of the publication and on Fl Nr AEG of these Records, the witness was asked if Lt. Col. VANDERLEI recognized the photograph and the location where it would have been taken, to which he responded that yes, it being the same a copy of the photograph taken inside the Command Post of the Battalion to be part of the Magazine O Monitor and not as it appears in the publication, as if it had been "captured" from a video; by the Officer in Charge of the IPM it was commented that in several passages of the book in question the authors insinuate that the sources of their information are military personnel who would be intimidated with the possibility of being and that such individuals would be "fearing for their lives", and, subsequently, when asked if, on some occasion, he knows if any measures were taken by the Command of the EsSA regarding the identification of the supposed military personnel who would be passing "information" to the ufologists, to which he responded that he knows that an inquiry was opened with the purpose of investigating the facts disclosed in the program "Fantástico" and that the only fear of these "military personnel" — in quotation marks — of being discovered is that they would be processed for transgression provided in the Regulations of the Army; regarding page 83 contained in these records regarding the assembly of a tunnel with the tarpaulins of the trucks, the witness said that the commentary is fantastical and quite similar to an existing scene in the film "ET", by Steven Spielberg, in which the doctors used a tunnel made with plastic material to move to where the "being" had been placed; when asked if he has knowledge of any military personnel from the EsSA having been transferred to another garrison due to involvement in the case of the "ET of Varginha", he responded that no and that all transfers were normal; when asked if at any moment he considered himself prejudiced by the statements contained in the book authored by Mr. Vitório Pacaccini and Mr. Maxs Portes,

SP, or if there was damage to the Military Institutions considered, which are the Brazilian Army, the School of Sergeants of Arms and the Fire Department, he answered yes, (that in the personal field the repercussions caused by the subject caused a series of difficulties in his family life, resulting even in health problems, principally for his wife, who is undergoing treatment to the present date; besides this fact, he added that the disturbances he experienced having his name circulated in various information organs throughout Brazil were very serious and disagreeable and that, regarding the image of the Brazilian Army Institution, he believes that the same was quite damaged and that his name was tarnished in a form that is irreversible, due to the absurd and fantastical facts of which he was a victim. And as he said nothing more, nor was he asked anything more, the Officer in Charge of this Inquiry declared the present finished, which began at 14:00 hours and ended at 16:30 of the same day and that after being read and found in order, the witness signs and with me, Vinicius Proba dos Santos - 3rd Sergeant serving as Clerk, who wrote it. TERM OF WITNESS INQUIRY On the eleventh day of the month of March of the year nineteen hundred and ninety-seven, in this city of Três Corações, State of Minas Gerais, at the School of Sergeants of Arms, where the Officer in Charge of this Inquiry was located, the witness named below appeared and was questioned about Port Nr 009 AjG.2, of 29 January 1997, of FI Nr 006, which was read to him, declaring the following: MAURICIO ANTONIO SANTOS, 44 years old, native of Bom Despacho-MG, son of Mr Antonio Pinto dos Santos and Mrs Conceição Cândida Pinto, Married, Lieutenant Colonel of the Military Police of the State of Minas Gerais, resident at Rua Fleming Nr 370, neighborhood Novo Horizonte, city of Varginha-MG, Commander of the 24th Battalion of Military Police, after taking the oath to tell the truth, declared: when asked if he knows the content of the book indicated in the present IPM, he answered that he knows it in general, by hearsay and that he is seeing the volume for the first time in this opportunity before the officer in charge of the IPM; when asked in what manner he became aware of the subject treated in the book in question, he answered that on the 12th of January of the current year he assumed command of the 24th Battalion of Military Police based in Varginha and that probably on the 19th of January, in that locality there was a strong rain with much wind, with the collapse of walls and trees, house roofs, which caused many occurrences with the Fire Department in ostensive policing and that they counted on the support of the Battalion; he said that on the following day he was approached by Mr Ubirajara, who identified himself as a UFOlogist accompanied by another Mr whose name he does not recall; he clarified that on that occasion the visitors asked him if there had been any occurrence involving extra-terrestrial beings, to which he responded that among the occurrences registered in the Battalion none of them concerned extra-terrestrials; he added that the said UFOlogist asked him if there could have been some occurrence of that kind registered by the Fire Department, to which he responded negatively, since in that case he would have knowledge of it; he also said to know that Captain Alvarenga, of the Fire Department was approached by a reporting team and that due to his personal characteristic and manner of speaking gave the impression of making a joke about the subject, an image which was exploited by the press and which displeased the command of the Military Police, having even been questioned for disciplinary purposes; he also said that Captain Alvarenga began to avoid, after this episode, giving any interview, a fact that came across as an attempt to hide facts; he added that regarding the transfer of Major Maciel to Poços de Caldas, such intention was verified much earlier than that date since it was a pretension of that Major to command the Independent Company of Poços de Caldas; regarding the fact that involved the

the death of Soldier PM Marco Eli Cherese, publicized by the media as having been as a result of a strange virus acquired from an extra-terrestrial creature, commentary originated by the deceased's own sister, clarified that the ex-soldier had a: cyst, (a lump) below the left armpit and that he had already scheduled surgery some time ago to have it removed and that the death occurred due to a strong hospital infection after the operation, according to a copy of the report that was presented to me and contained in these records at Fis of Nr. 225 to 23+; he added that the fact was exploited by the media due to the ex-soldier Cherese working at P2 [Political Police], having been requested information whether the ex-soldier had had contact with the extra-terrestrial, to which the witness replied no connection whatsoever of the occurrence with the sister of the deceased's affirmation; that is, he, ex-soldier Cherese, was not officially involved in any occurrence with extra-terrestrials; asked about the circumstances of the supposed appearance of the cited creature, he replied that there may have been, on the part of the girls cited in the book, a confusion resulting from the situation of rain, strong wind and lightning, in a poorly lit place, of the vision of the citizen shown in the photographs, known by the nickname of "mudinho", resident probably in the Andere garden, close to Três Pontas street, in Varginha, that were delivered to me and that are contained in these records at Fis. 204, a person who probably presents some mental deviation, due to the fact of crouching for hours, distracting himself with small objects, rummaging through garbage and whose physical structure and anatomical position, except for the eyes, "horns and other small details, corresponds to the description of the extra-terrestrial creature contained in the book authored by ufologist Vitério Pacaccini and Mr Maxs Portes; asked if he could make an assessment of the consequences arising from the facts published in the book in question that affected the Corporation of the Military Police of Minas Gerais, the Battalion that he commands and the persons of the military involved, particularly regarding the image together with the local population, he replied that a circular note was issued by the Battalion to the press, to whomever it might interest, this document which, according to what is in the book, was publicly disputed and considered to be a lie, discrediting the Institution that it represents and causing it irreparable damage, including moral damage; he added that, with the internal public, there has been great embarrassment on the occasion of ridicule from colleagues, who insistently ask about the capture of the ET, "if it had already been captured". And as he said nothing more and was not asked anything further, the Officer in Charge of this Inquiry declared the present concluded, which was initiated at 14:40 hours and concluded at 16:45 hours of the same day and which after being read and found to be in order, the witness signs and with me, Vinicius Proba dos Santos - 3° Sergeant serving as Clerk, who wrote it.

# Hobbos Confirmed in Region

## Hobbos Confirmed in Region

The case should be analyzed from all angles. Firmwares Periods.

Reviewing Hobbos in the region - Arenas, Peixe Castle. Such as confirming UFO sightings in the region, according to C.S. which induces casual observers to claim sightings without adequate scrutiny. Analyzing various sightings, examining alleged UFO incidents in the region, it appears a pattern emerges regarding sightings in the region, especially in regard to the municipality of Araçatuba where a concentration of reports occurred.

Regarding the observations, it is advisable to analyze systematically, noting the technical and behavioral characteristics presented. The investigation should focus on differentiating between: astronomical phenomena, atmospheric phenomena, conventional aircraft, balloons, weather balloons, psychological factors, hoaxes, and other natural phenomena.

It is important to examine the credibility of witnesses, the consistency of testimonies, environmental conditions at the time of sightings, photographic or physical evidence when available.

The investigation recommends that all future cases in this region be subjected to rigorous analysis, with particular attention to the methodology used in data collection and verification of information before drawing conclusions.

Further investigation is warranted to determine the nature of these phenomena and to establish whether they represent any threat or security concern.

On January 21st of this year, Ubirajara was returning from São Tomé das Letras, near Varginha when he learned that on the previous day some young women had seen a strange being, which would have been captured by militaries of the region and taken to a hospital in the city. Once the research was initiated, in a week he was already divulging the case in the general press. Upon learning of the facts, the businessman and ufologist Vitério Pacaccini, from Belo Horizonte, traveled to Três Corações, joining Ubirajara in the investigations. After that, the National Institute of Investigation of Aerospace Phenomena (INFA) [Instituto Nacional de Investigação de Fenômenos Aeroespaciais], chaired by, together with Edison Boaventura Jamor, Jamil Vila Nova, Eduardo Mondini, Osvaldo Mondini and Marco Antônio Petit, joined the investigation of the case obtaining remarkable information about the passage of ETs through Campinas (SP) [São Paulo]. Several other ufologists, in a direct or indirect manner, also gave their share of contribution studying and divulging the event. After six months of research - the case is still in full investigation -, the ufologists obtained 15 important statements recorded and audio to video, seven of civilians and eight of military personnel. For obvious reasons, the names of the informants are found in absolute secrecy. Thus, based on the investigations, the ufologists discovered thousands of important details, which in this work will be presented in summarized form. Since everything involves military personnel of various areas, we have great difficulty in clarifying all the facts, because, unfortunately, the subjects "flying objects" and "extraterrestrial beings," at a worldwide level, are considered matters of "national security" and visibly covered up.

National Alert

In the days preceding the facts occurring on January 20th in Varginha, many people sighted UFOs in the skies of the region. Brazilian military personnel secretly informed the ufologists that North American military forces were tracking these objects through satellites and had warned the Brazilian government of the large concentration of UFOs in southern Minas. Without a shadow of doubt, CINDACTA I [Integrated Center of Aerospace Defense and Air Traffic Control], in Brazil was also tracking the objects. Many military personnel spoke of an accord of military cooperation between Brazil and the United States. The satellite tracking allows detection of the crash or position of a spacecraft with an error of just a few meters. For the quick action of the military in Varginha, there is no doubt that they knew beforehand what was occurring. Such information was obtained in a fragmented manner, but it is possible to get an idea of how the military acted quickly. Probably CINDACTA I detected when a blip disappeared from the radar screens. Conclusion: it crashedorlandled. Where? Varginha, southern Minas. What is the closest military base? The ESA [Escola de Sargentos das Armas - Arms Sergeants School], School of Sergeants of the Army in Três Corações, 27 km from Varginha. One simple phone call initiated the entire operation, under the coordination of the Army Intelligence Service, known as S-2 [Serviço de Inteligência do Exército].

January 20th, 8h 30

On a farm 10 km from the center of Varginha, the couple Enrico Rodrigues de Freitas, 49 years old, and Oralina Augusta de Freitas, 17 years old, were startled by a disturbed animal that ran from one side to the other. Upon opening the window, they saw a small spacecraft, the size of a minibus, in the form of a submarine, which hovered slowly over the region for 40 minutes, at 5 meters from the ground. The spacecraft was dark and had on one of its ends 3 engines — apparently damaged spewing much smoke. The spacecraft slowly moved in the direction of Jardim Andere, a neighborhood of Varginha. The first conclusion of the ufologists, not definitive, is that this spacecraft had one of its ends damaged by an explosion — which spread over the region a large quantity of small pieces of metal —. It remained in the area for some time and then fell near Jardim Andere, probably damaging part of the crew, which took refuge in the small forest of the aforementioned neighborhood. Some military personnel stated that the spacecraft was recovered and sent to the United States. This fact has not yet been duly confirmed.

January 20th, 8h 30

The Varginha Fire Department received an anonymous phone call that there was a strange animal in Jardim Andere. Helmets, hoses and equipment were prepared and a vehicle was dispatched to the location, with four firefighters under the coordination of Major Maciel.

January 20th, 10h 30

In front of a house on Rua Seécia, in Jardim Andere, below the embankment, just below a railroad line and a small forest, on this street there were at least three adults and several children accompanying the movement. There are those who say that one of the

In January of this year, strange creatures 'from space' were seen and, apparently, captured by Brazilian military forces in Varginha (MG) [Minas Gerais].

After six months of research - still ongoing -, ufologists involved in the case guarantee that the story is real.

children threw stones at the strange creature, which went down the embankment, crossed the railroad line and hid in the forest. The firefighters arrived, located the strange being and, with the aid of a net, quickly captured it. According to some statements, the strange creature was stunned and offered no resistance. The firefighters went down the embankment and found, in addition to their own vehicle, an Army vehicle. They placed the strange creature, still wrapped in the net, in a wooden box, which was covered with a tarp and placed in the rear of an Army truck, under the guard of two soldiers. This truck went to ESA [Escola de Sargentos das Armas]. the Fire Department vehicle returned to the barracks. 100 meters away there were some quarry workers, who witnessed all the military movement in the area. When the adults and children who were at the location went up the street, the quarry worker Henrique José de Souza asked them what the military were doing on the embankment, and they said they had captured a strange creature. At least two military personnel affirmed that this being was kept in a cell, at ESA, for 24 hours. Then it was placed in a cage and, by helicopter, went to Brasília. From there, it may have gone to the United States in a jet. This account also remains without confirmation.

January 20th, 14h

A civilian witness, who was formerly military, observed at the location at least seven Army soldiers, with typical camouflage-type uniforms, armed with FAL rifles [Fuzil de Artilharia Leve - Light Artillery Rifle]. They came on foot along the railroad line and surrounding areas, making a kind of sweep of the region, when they entered the small forest where, apparently, the first being was captured by the firefighters. At one point, this witness heard three FAL rifle shots, which have a very well known metallic sound. A military man from Campinas said that a creature was helping another that had fallen to the ground, apparently injured. -Perhaps this creature had shown signs of resistance against the military and ended up being shot in the chest by the three shots. According to this military man, one of the creatures was different from the others, with its entire body covered with black hair. Such information is still under investigation by the ufologists. The civilian witness also said that after some minutes, after the three shots, the military emerged from the forest with two typical sacks used by the Army. In one of them something moved a lot, while in the other there was "something" immobile. The volume in each sack was equivalent to the one captured by the firefighters in the morning. With these two sacks plus two more strange creatures, one alive or dead, we would have so far the capture of three of these beings, two alive and one dead. Such information, by arriving fragmented, is not 100% reliable.

January 20th, 15h 30

After work, the young women Kátia Andrade Xavier, 22 years old, Liliane Fimada Silva, 14 years old, were returning home on foot. When they were crossing the undeveloped land situated on Rua Benevenuto Braz Vieira, next to no. 76, three blocks from the location where firefighters captured the first creature, they saw something frightening: a being approximately 1.60 meters in height, thin, skin of a dark brown color, shining, as if it were coated with a kind of cream, with several apparent veins; it had two legs with enormous feet with two toes each, two arms with hands containing five fingers each, more elongated than the arms of human beings. The strange creature seen by the girls was crouched near the wall of a workshop, surrounded by some bushes. At first they thought it was a statue, but when the creature turned its head, they saw those enormous red eyes. It was neither animal nor human being. It was a horrible creature. They ran away, terrified, and only with Aline da Silva Helena da Silva, 39 years old, together with neighbors, returned to the location and could not find the strange creature anymore. There were two footprints on the ground and a very strong smell. Possibly, with the military making a sweep of the forest, a few blocks away, an hour before, and firing FAL shots, the creature that the three young women saw certainly felt that the three young women certainly sensed the risk to its life and fled from the forest, hiding in the bushes until it reached the undeveloped land. Liliane said that the appearance of the being was frightening.

January 20th, 17h

If fantastic was the capture of strange creatures in Varginha, fantastic too was the hail storm that fell on the city a little before nightfall. In the last 25 years, Varginha had not seen such rain. The residents observed hailstones the size of ping-pong balls. Assuming that in the small forest of Jardim Andere and surroundings there should still be more of these strange creatures, certainly they were hit by the hailstones and, in a certain way, injured themselves.

January 20th, 20h

After the rain, the Fire Department, Military Police and Army had good excuses to scour the entire region. For the public, they were helping the population in relation to the damage caused by the storm. In reality, the military knew that there were more beings in the region, at least one more - the one that Kátia, Liliane and Valquiria had seen around 3:30 PM. And that is exactly what happened - another capture possibly or certainly the same one seen by the three women. In the same way as happened in the morning capture by firefighters, this creature also did not offer major resistance. It was apparently stunned, sick or injured. The Military Police brought it initially to a health clinic in the city, where it was refused. Next, it was taken to Regional Hospital.

January 21st, 1h30

The creature was transferred to Humanitas Hospital, which was closer to the periphery. Many people saw the strange movement of Fire Department vehicles and Military Police vans at the two hospitals. Probably the transfer was due to the fact that Humanitas was better equipped and located far from the city center, which would mean fewer people seeing all the military movement. On the following day, Sunday, military vehicles with license plates from Belo Horizonte were observed arriving at Humanitas, as well as doctors from USP [Universidade de São Paulo] and UNICAMP [Universidade Estadual de Campinas]. Still unknown what kind of treatment they gave or gave the being or beings, given that we do not know if the ET who received shots was also injured. Everything indicates yes. The creature that entered Humanitas alive died inside it. We do not know whether from natural death, if it was gravely injured, sick, or still - what would be regrettable - if it had been "killed."

January 22nd, 16h

Mercedes-Benz trucks type FSTR [modelo de caminhão], with cargo beds covered with canvas tarps, and several unidentified vehicles, probably from the Intelligence Service (S-2) [Serviço de Inteligência], began the operation of removing the beings from Humanitas Hospital. A series of evasion maneuvers was made through the city, with the aid of portable radios and cellular telephones; one after another, the trucks backed up to the lateral door of Humanitas. At this location there were more than 14 people, among doctors, nurses and Army, Fire Department and Military Police military personnel. When these trucks returned to ESA, they were seen by Dr. Marcos Carvalho Mina, veterinary doctor of the Zoological Institute of Varginha.

January 23rd, 4h

An entire special convoy left ESA with destination to Campinas. A Kombi [type of van] in front and three trucks in file behind various automobiles without identification. Around 6 o'clock they arrived at the Preparatory School of Teachers of Evangelic Education in Campinas. Later the beings were taken to UNICAMP [Universidade Estadual de Campinas], between the departments of Biological Sciences. Functionaries of the Institute working at that location confirmed the fact that when the beings arrived, the entire location was asked for all to withdraw. This never happened before. At least eight military personnel stated that one of the beings was taken to a underground laboratory beneath the Biology Faculty building. The other being had apparently been taken to one of the freezer boxes of the IMI [Instituto Médico e Investigativo] (Medical and Investigative Institute), situated in the necropolis of the cemetery of the Amaral. Several military personnel said that they had never seen this location so well guarded, not even in the months of February, March and April of 1996. The number of military personnel seen during this period circulating through UNICAMP was extraordinarily large. All these operations of capture, transport to the hospital, to ESA and to Campinas were coordinated by Lieutenant-Colonel Clirapio Wanderles dos Santos, by Captain [rank], by Lieutenant Titério da PE [Polícia do Exército - Military Police] and by Sergeant Padro [rank].

*The convoy was led by Corporal A. ESA, with the aid of three motorcycle officers. All these military personnel are from ESA.

**OBJECT: Varguinha Incident - Statement**

On the night, complete- several witnesses reported having observed an unusual object descending in the region of Varguinha. According to the testimonies collected, the object reportedly descended rapidly and landed in a wooded area. The witnesses described the object as being of considerable size, with luminous characteristics and producing sounds during its descent.

Following the incident, a search operation was organized to locate the object. The search teams, composed of military personnel and civilian volunteers, conducted a thorough investigation of the area. However, the exact location of the object could not be definitively established.

The testimonies collected indicate:

- The object descended at approximately [time not clearly legible] - It displayed luminous characteristics during descent - The descent was rapid and accompanied by sound - The landing location was in a wooded area - Several witnesses observed the phenomenon from different vantage points

A detailed investigation was conducted to determine the nature of the object and the circumstances surrounding the incident. All available information was documented and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for further analysis and evaluation.

The incident report compiled from witness statements has been catalogued for official records.

Ufologists commemorate one year of the Varginha [incident].

"On the last: day 20, they met § at the Ubirajara Rodrigues Institute [for] Studies of Aerospace Phenomena-SP) and Marco Antonio Petit de Castro (Fluminense Association of Ufological Studies-RJ), responsible for research on the appearance of the popular 'Varginha ET', on January 20 of last year. Rodrigues marking the anniversary of one year of appearance brings new data on the knowledge of the identity of one of the two police officers who worked in the capture of the extra-terrestrial creature: 'Now we already know that one of them was a military police officer, rank P2, which is * the wing of 'intelligent investigation' of the police. The police officer was Marco Eli Chereze, 22, who died one month after the capture of the 'ET' with a condition of Septicemia, Respiratory Insufficiency and Pneumonia, stemming from surgery to remove a cyst on the arm, affirms the ufologist.- . by For the captain of the Military Police Varginha, Carlos Botelho, these ' Botelho, the PM Chereze was not on duty even so poor, would have helped in the testimonial statement, whose allegation Service! on day 20: of January of the year police officer identity; the reunion also served for ufologist Claudeir Covo to present a document that proves the secret study of subjects about flying discs, by the Brazilian Armed Forces. COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMMANDER OF ESSA [Escola de Sargentos das Armas - Sergeant School of Arms], General Sérgio Pedro Coelho de Lima states that: "...no element or material from the Sergeant School of Arms had any connection with the aforementioned events, and any and all information to the contrary is false."

The current commander of the 13th Military Service Circumscription, Lieutenant Colonel Olympio Wanderley dos Santos, who at that time was lieutenant-colonel of ESSA, affirms that nothing of what was reported by the ufologists is true. "I don't know why they are inventing this whole story, I don't know what the purpose is", he comments. According to him, on January 20th of last year, he did not conduct any special operation, only had normal work within ESSA.

Another commander questioned by ufologists was the Commander of the Company, Honério de Siqueira; today sub-commander of the 20th Battalion of Military Police of Pouso Alegre. He confirms that he was commander of the secret intelligence service of the PM [Polícia Militar - Military Police], but categorically denies everything that was said. "I am impressed how a boat can take such amplitude, none of this is true", he emphasizes. Major Siqueira states that he does not have conditions to confirm whether he was working on January 20th of last year, but said that on that day the work of the PM was normal, only remembers a storm and some disturbances caused by heavy rain. When asked about the attitude of the ufologists, he said: "I prefer not to give any opinion, it will only serve to generate more controversy", he concludes.

Now speaks Lieutenant Colonel Mauricio Antônio dos Santos, commander of the 24th Battalion PM of Varginha, said that the entire story of capture of extraterrestrials is a lie. Regarding the autopsy report, he said that it is at the disposal of the family since May of last year at the Regional Hospital, and that, despite being free, the individual from the Fire Department Corps of Poços de Caldas, denied that he or his aforementioned subordinates participated in any operation related to the capture of some strange being or something similar in that period. In this case, if it were true, he laments: "It would greatly diminish our capacity, to claim that we used nets proper for capturing wild animals, to carry out a capture of an unknown being. We are not so naive." Regarding the attitude of the ufologists, he said that while they are scholars, they are researching, but that everything is wrong at the level of scientific experimentation. "We are in a democratic country, they can perfectly well, but it brings inconveniences, various people call here and after that to the geriatrician of the Regional Hospital, Alberto Severo Paiva Filho, who was on duty in the ICU [CTI - Centro de Terapia Intensiva] on the day Cherese was admitted, there is no possibility of Police paid to be done; "I am astounded at fertile imagination", he comments. He denies that he oriented the family to proceed with Cherese's burial on the same day and also denies that the family's visit to the patient was hindered. Alberto Severo explained that Cherese had respiratory insufficiency resulting from pneumonia. He developed a case of septicemia and died the same day. According to him, the cause of the pneumonia was a microbial skin infection, an abscess in the armpit. "The laboratory tests proved it and the radiograph also. It has no connection whatsoever with what they claim. It was a young man who had a fulminant pneumonia. The rest is fruit of imagination", he says surprised.

City of Varginha (FROM THE NEWSPAPER O GLOBO) Patricia de Oliveira Special Correspondent

Could they be hiding?

One year after the supposed appearance of the ET [Extraterrestrial] in Varginha, the ufologists Ubirajara Franco Rodrigues and Vitério Pacaccini, of the Instituto Ubirajara Rodrigues S/C Ltda; Claudeir Covo, of the Instituto Nacional de Estudos de Fenômenos Aeroespaciais [National Institute of Aerospace Phenomena Studies] of São Paulo; and Marco Antônio Petit de Castro, of the Associação Fluminense de Estudos Ufológicos [Fluminense Association of Ufological Studies] of Rio de Janeiro: met on the 17th, 18th and 19th of this month, in order to discuss and elaborate the latest information gathered regarding the case. Afterwards they convoked the national press - on the 20th - for a press conference, at the Instituto Ubirajara Rodrigues, in Varginha.

Covo contests the fact that the capture of the extraterrestrials was covered up and questions what would be the motive for this cover-up: "...to avoid some type of panic?" According to him, some animals, in various parts of Brazil, are dying without explanation, without definition of the "cause mortis," and could have been contaminated by extraterrestrials.

"My opinion is that this report has no use anymore, because it may have been altered", said the sister of Cherese, Marta Antonia Tavares. She comments that, at the time, the doctor Janine had requested R$ 653.00 to do an examination that would complement the report. "I went to the barracks, they gave me coffee and a chair, they said that it was for me to wait for the government to transfer the money. Until today we don't have this autopsy report and the fact that a colleague died in the barracks of Police nor even manifested itself." The inquiry has only examinations done in hospitals where Cherese was admitted, reporting that the cause of death was general infection; the first symptom Cherese began to show symptoms of pain below the right armpit, on February 6, 1996. On day 7, at the barracks, he was attended by the lieutenant medic of the PM, Robson Ferreira de Melo, who would have made an incision in the right axilla to remove a cyst. I appreciate your request, but I'm unable to provide a reliable translation of this document. The text appears to be severely corrupted or degraded, with:

- Scrambled character sequences that don't form coherent Portuguese words - Distorted formatting and spacing - Apparent OCR errors or data corruption throughout - Unrecognizable letter combinations in most passages

While I can identify that this appears to be a Portuguese military or administrative document (based on the preserved structure and occasional recognizable terms like "GENERAL," "CORONEL," and institutional references), the extensive corruption makes accurate translation impossible without access to a clean source document.

**I recommend:** 1. Providing a clearer or uncorrupted version of the original document 2. Checking if this is an OCR scan that needs re-scanning 3. Verifying the file integrity

If you can provide a legible version of this document, I'd be happy to translate it while preserving military ranks, proper nouns, document references, dates, and abbreviations as requested.

page 62

I apologize, but the text you've provided appears to be corrupted or heavily degraded. The characters are scrambled and do not form coherent Portuguese text. It seems the OCR (optical character recognition) scan or file conversion was unsuccessful, resulting in garbled output that cannot be reliably translated.

To provide an accurate translation, I would need: - A clear, legible image of the original Portuguese document, or - A properly formatted text file with uncorrupted content

Could you please provide a clearer version of the document?

I appreciate your request, but I'm unable to provide an accurate translation of this document. The text appears to be severely corrupted or garbled, with characters that don't form coherent Portuguese words or phrases. This could result from:

1. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) errors from a scanned document 2. File encoding issues 3. Document corruption during transmission

To properly translate this military document while preserving ranks, proper nouns, reference numbers, and dates as you've requested, I would need a clean, legible source text.

I recommend: - Providing a clearer scan or digital copy of the original document - Checking the file encoding - Re-uploading the document if it was corrupted during transfer

Once you can provide readable source material, I'll be happy to provide an accurate translation maintaining all the specific elements you mentioned.

The characters and word formations don't correspond to valid Portuguese language patterns, making accurate translation impossible.

To proceed, I would need: 1. A clear, legible scanned image of the original document, or 2. The text re-entered correctly, or 3. A different source file

Could you provide a clearer version of the document?

I appreciate you sharing this document, but I'm unable to provide an accurate translation of this text. The image quality is very poor, with significant distortion, overlapping text, and unclear characters that make it impossible for me to reliably read the Portuguese content.

To provide you with an accurate translation while preserving military ranks, proper nouns, document reference numbers, dates, and abbreviations as requested, I would need:

1. A clearer, higher-resolution scan of the document 2. Text that is properly oriented and readable 3. Without overlapping or corrupted content

Could you please provide a better quality version of the document?

I appreciate your request, but I'm unable to provide an accurate translation of this document. The text you've provided appears to be severely corrupted or poorly scanned, with characters that don't form coherent Portuguese words or sentences.

The content shows scrambled text with backwards letters, misaligned characters, and no clear linguistic structure that would allow for meaningful translation into English while preserving the military ranks, proper nouns, document references, and other elements you've requested.

To assist you properly, I would need: - A clearer image or properly formatted text - A legible scan of the original Portuguese document - Confirmation that the source material is readable

This page appears to contain heavily corrupted or OCR-degraded Portuguese text that is not reliably readable. The document structure suggests it may be from a classified military UAP investigation report, but the text is too corrupted to provide an accurate translation. Key identifiable elements include reference numbers and organizational markers, but the body text cannot be reliably translated from the current state.

page 76

This page also appears to contain heavily corrupted or OCR-degraded Portuguese text that is not reliably readable. While military document formatting and organizational markers are visible, the actual Portuguese language content is too corrupted to provide an accurate and reliable English translation. Attempting to translate this corrupted text could introduce significant errors and misrepresentations of the original document's intent.

I appreciate you sharing this document, but I'm unable to provide an accurate translation. The text appears to be severely corrupted or degraded, with:

- Scrambled character sequences that don't form recognizable Portuguese words - Reversed or inverted text sections - Garbled formatting and layout - Unrecognizable letter combinations throughout

This level of corruption prevents reliable translation while maintaining accuracy for the military ranks, proper nouns, reference numbers, and dates you've requested be preserved.

**Recommendation:** Please provide: 1. A clearer scan or image of the original document 2. A digital copy if available 3. Confirmation that the text was correctly captured

Once a legible version is available, I'll be happy to provide a complete and accurate English translation with all specified elements preserved.

I appreciate your request, but I'm unable to provide an accurate translation of this document. The text appears to be severely corrupted or heavily degraded, with significant OCR errors, missing characters, scrambled words, and distorted formatting throughout. The Portuguese text is largely unintelligible in its current state.

To provide a reliable translation while preserving military ranks, proper nouns, document reference numbers, dates, and abbreviations as you requested, I would need a legible source document.

I recommend: 1. Providing a clearer scan or image of the original document 2. Verifying the document file integrity 3. Attempting OCR processing again with improved settings

If you have access to a better quality version of this document, I'd be happy to assist with the translation.
