Firefighters, police officers, and dozens of other residents corroborated the sightings over the following days. The Brazilian Army officially concluded that witnesses had mistaken a local man with a disability for something else. Brazil's newly released SIAN files include seven volumes of Military Police Inquiry into the incident, a 1971 intelligence report placing similar Varginha-area sightings 25 years earlier, and explicit confirmation that footage from the incident exists in the archive.
