Egypt Forced Scientists to Delete the Labyrinth Study | Louis de Cordier

In 2008, Louis de Cordier led a massive geophysical survey at Hawara, Egypt, utilizing advanced ground-penetrating technology to confirm the existence of a massive, ten-football-field-sized underground labyrinth matching the ancient descriptions of Herodotus. Despite the survey being published and presented to international acclaim, the Egyptian government—led by a furious Zahi Hawass—abruptly halted the project, blacklisted de Cordier, and suppressed the findings as a national security breach after a diplomatic incident involving the Egyptian president's wife and a Belgian magazine cover. De Cordier attributes the sudden shutdown to the discovery becoming entangled with alternative history theories about "lost civilizations," and despite subsequent satellite scans in 2014 and 2015 revealing four additional deep layers of subterranean spaces, the legendary site remains completely unexcavated.
